2020 music portion of audition
*** Everyone is allowed to choose which part they would like to audition for! If you would rather play 2nd for the season, you should send your audition video of you playing the bottom part any time there is divisi. As for the chromatic scale, play the lowest note you are comfortable with and play up to the highest note you are comfortable with. Piccolo auditions will be done the same way with the same excerpt and the same scale.
*** If you choose to audition for piccolo, send in ONE video of you playing the excerpt and scale on both flute and piccolo, with you playing the excerpt and scale on flute first.
*** On the audition form, whether you are sending in a video with you auditioning on flute or piccolo, you will select flute in the drop down options box!

AUDITIONS FOR 2020 MARCHING SOUTHERNERS FLUTE LINE
Flute & Piccolo Auditions:
For the playing part of the audition You will need to play sections from the show (posted above), either Southerner's Special or Stars Fell on Alabama, and everyone auditioning will be required to match one pitch played by one of the section leaders.
**you must make the flute line before you can audition for piccolo!**
For the Marching part of the audition, You will need to show that you will be able to march correctly. We will go over how the southerners march during our time at band camp, and that is also where you will be graded.
For the attitude part of the audition you will need to show a willingness to work hard and put forth effort. Bad attitudes will not be tolerated. how you act during the season is important, and we want people who will better the marching southerners.
A word from the Flute Section Leaders!
Hello!
As your 2020 Flute section leaders, we are glad to hear that you are interested in marching with the 2020 Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners. This season is sure to go down in the record books as one of the best!
Our section's audition process will consist EQUALLY of attitude, marching, and playing ability. A good attitude is VERY important! There will be an audition process for both piccolo and flute, both of which will take place during the first week of band camp. Everyone must audition on flute and make the flute line before they can audition for the piccolo line. The only requirement we have for piccolo auditions is that you MUST have a black plastic piccolo - no metal headjoints or bodies. Even if you are interested in marching piccolo you cannot play piccolo in the ensemble until you make the piccolo line. You must have your flute with you during band camp until we announce the piccolo results. When you are registering for classes be sure that you register for the Marching Southerners class (MU 192 - lower level and MU 392 - upper level).
You will also need to register for band camp when this becomes available. There will be a registration form on the website that you will need to fill out in order to have a spot in the drill. Please register on this website as well as www.marchingsoutherners.org. Keep your eyes on these websites for any additional news and information.
We look forward to meeting you and hearing from you. Please do not hesitate to email us or friend us on facebook if you have any questions or concerns. We will probably respond faster if you message us on facebook. Once again, it will be a season you will never forget!
